The new Karaoke Revolution? January 26, 2008 R. Andrews (Northampton, MA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Before I tell you how good this game is, let me give you a warning. WARNING: DO NOT BUY THE STAND-ALONE VERSION OF THIS GAME UNLESS YOU HAVE THE SINGSTAR MICROPHONES! I found that out the hard way. I bought the stand-alone version of this game thinking that my Logitech PS2 USB Microphone would work with it. WRONG! No microphones are compatable with this game except the SingStar microphones. I had to buy the SingStar Rocks! Bundle W/ Two Microphones just so I could play this game (Don't get me wrong, SingStar Rocks! is a sweet game too)! Also, don't think that you can buy the stand-alone version of this game and buy the mics seperate to save some money. You can only get the mics if you buy them with the game. If you really want this game, and you are a first-time SingStar consumer, buy the bundle instead of the stand-alone. But enough of me complaining about the mics, let me tell you why I rated this 5 out of 5 stars.
SingStar Pop is awe inspiring to say the least. Out of the 30 songs, I knew 25 right off the bat. I know some people complain that there is no way of knowing how good you sing with the scoring system, but I think I've figured it out:
0-1,999: Poor
2,000-3,999: Okay
4,000-5,999: Good
6,000-7,999: Great!
8,000-10,000: AWESOME!
SingStar Pop has many songs that modern-day kids and teens will know like "S.O.S" by Rihanna and "Over My Head (Cable Car) by The Fray. It even has a few songs that their parents might know too like "Take On Me" by A-Ha and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper. If you don't know a song, you can just go into freestyle mode to practice it and you won't be scored. This game is PERFECT for house parties. With "Pass The Mic", everyone can get involved. Also, people complain that you can't hear yourself that well on the game and that there is no mic volume control. I don't think that this is a problem for three reasons:
1. It saves the really bad singers from embareasing themsleves if you have a loud suround sound system hooked up to your TV
2. You can hear yourself singing. You don't need the TV to hear what you are saying.
and 3. You can record your performance anyway if you have an Eye Toy
The USB converter is great (and no, you can't plug your karaoke machine mics into it) because it frees up a space for the Eye Toy which can record your performances. The bundle comes with not one, but TWO mics, so you can sing with a friend or realitive without spending extra money for another mic. But the best thing of all about SingStar that sets it apart from all other karaoke games is that you can watch the music video for the song in the background while singing. If you also own Singstar Rocks!, you can swap the playlist from SingStar Pop with SingStar Rocks!, and vice versa, using the disk swap feature. The list of Pros goes on and on with the SingStar series. In addition the SingStar Pop and SingStar Rocks!, the two I own, I am going to buy SingStar Amped (Stand Alone) (and maybe SingStar 80's (Stand Alone) as well), because this is such an awesome game series for people who LOVE music like I do. If you are one of those kinds of people, buy it now. Don't even hesitate, just buy it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. I think that the SingStar series is the new Karaoke Revolution!
Great Fun September 6, 2008 Brady 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is a party life saver, everyone gets up and gets in on the fun. It's really a great game for you, your family, and your friends to play and enjoy. The song choices are fun songs and some may be a little difficult at first, but after a while they grow on you and become easier.
I give it two thumbs up!
I never liked these kind of games but.... December 30, 2009 Rodrigo Toledo (Guatemala, GUATEMALA C.A.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First of all, I am a Videogame fan, and actually I prefer PS3 games a lot more than 360 games or an wii games of course. Games like metal gear solid, uncharted, bioshock etc...
I wanted a ps2, for collection, because to date it was the machine i have spend most time on.It was a sentimental desition, but when I tried to there was no silver sold by amazon only other sellers al $150 or higher, then i desided for the black one... and same happen. Still the white was there, but singstar wasnt the kind of game I wanted. By the way I live in Guatemala, Central America. I was really sad because my PO box would charge me really expensive because of the weight of the console box. And here in Guatemala videogames are almost twice as expensive than in the USA. Finally somehow i found one white ps2, and paying on cash almost at the price of amazon, but here in Guatemala. I was really astonished by the quality of this slim version, on the console itself and the package. But this machine simply looks so sexy on white, no body here has one of these.
But wait, thats not it... After I installed it, y tried the game just to give it some use, and WOW surprise, Y finished singing for 2 hours with my brother in law!!! I am 23, and he is like 29. but it was so much fun, I am christian, so the music I hear is Christian too, like Hillsong United, Skillet, Decyfer Down, Pillar, and latin of course. But this game ist about only siongng what you like its about reaching to actually sing, you controller is your voice. its a lot more classy than a Karaoke, with better music, Also loved that it contanined Life house song, which I love.
overall: Great value, amazing value, for collection or just to have fun. Even more than a Wii, that probably you'll stop using it after a while as usual. Also ps2 has an amazing library of games, accesible, cheap, and no only quantity, but quality of games, and for every genre, and ages.
SO HAPPY WITH THIS, IF I WAS ABLE I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT ON AMAZON FOR THE SERVICE QUALITY BUT I HAD TO PASS THIS TIME.
also this ps2 read my Gran turismo 4 that was useful from 5 years ago.. how i dont know, but it actually plays.... great!!!

I purchased this for my grand daughter who loves to sing and it was one of the Christmas presents she screamed when she opened she wanted it so bad she had played it at a friends house so she had been waiting for Christmas so she could have one of her own she has so much fun singing and the whole family can enjoy it.
Kids are diggin' it. May 19, 2007 James B. Toucey (Lakewood, CA United States) My kids love this game (2 girls, 8 and 11). They loved the the rock version also. Even though the quantity of songs is somewhat limited, they sing them over and over. This is good practice. All in all, this game passes the the time and entertains tremendously.
